Black History Month 2021: Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott

I believe we should give people their flowers *before* they die. This Black History Month, let’s make sure to recognize the living legends among us. Though their legacies aren’t yet final, these folks have made significant contributions that should be recognized now.

Melissa ‘Missy Misdemeanor’ Elliott's creativity has been a personal source of inspiration. Ms. Elliott is multi-talented with abilities that enable her to be a force on-stage and behind the scenes, with a penchant for creating memorable, avant-garde visuals and infectious beats. Her imprint has been left on countless hits over the past few decades, and she is also the first female rapper to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

More recently she has been public about her personal struggles with chronic illness, depression, and anxiety, but she has still been hard at work behind the scenes and on guest appearances after her relative absence from the spotlight over the past several years.

I don’t know about you, but I still remember her guest appearance on the Superbowl six years ago-- it brought every #xennial I know back to college parties and the club while sitting in their living rooms across the country. But my #1 workout song of all time is still Lose Control - I might not keep up quite like I used to, but I know I burn a few extra calories whenever it comes on!!

What's your favorite Missy song or production?
